Partner spotlight: Darren Matthias and a successful DVSA Compliance audit for RPH Plant Limited

RPHsurfacing

Recently, our partner and compliance expert Darren carried out a comprehensive DVSA audit for one of our valued FleetGO customers, RPH Plant Limited. The audit was very successful and the results speak for themselves.

The RPH Group, established in 2011, is a leading independent road surfacing, civil engineering, plant and labour hire company in the East Midlands. With over 25 years of industry experience, the company delivers a wide range of projects, from large-scale road and sewer packages, car parks and access roads to smaller works such as footways and driveways. Operating with its own skilled workforce of 40 operatives and a modern fleet of paving equipment, including Dynapac and Vögele pavers.

The challenge for RPH Plant Limited

Like many operators, RPH Plant Limited wanted reassurance. They were not entirely sure whether their systems, processes and documentation were fully compliant with their Operator Licence obligations. Rather than waiting for an unexpected inspection, they took a proactive step and contacted FleetGO for support. That is where our partner Darren stepped in.

Darren Matthias is the founder of 2B Compliant, a company that provides a complete transport compliance and Driver CPC training service. Since its founding in 2019, the business has supported transport professionals across the UK with a wide range of services, including Driver CPC training, operator’s licence audits, and external transport management support.

With Darren’s industry knowledge and FleetGO’s technology-driven solutions, transport businesses benefit from a combination of expertise, practical support, and innovative tools designed to keep fleets compliant, efficient, and ready for the future.

What is a DVSA audit?

A DVSA audit is an independent review aligned with the standards set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. It assesses whether operators are meeting their Operator Licence obligations and complying with current legislation.

While many people associate DVSA checks purely with tachographs, an audit goes much further than that.

It typically includes:

  • Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
Reviewing safety inspection records, MOT history, preventative maintenance planning and defect reporting to ensure compliance with the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
  • Driver Hours & Tachographs
Analysing driver hours against EU/GB regulations, ensuring correct data downloads, storage and infringement management.
  • Operator Licence Compliance
Confirming that the legal entity, operating centres and licence details are accurate and up to date.
  • Management Systems
Assessing internal policies, driver training procedures, CPC qualification checks and licence monitoring systems.
  • Sample Record Audits
Typically including a three-month analysis of operator systems and compliance documentation.

In short, it is a full health check of your transport operation.

The outcome for RPH Plant Limited

Following the audit, Darren identified areas for improvement and worked closely with the team to create a clear, practical action plan. Every recommendation was implemented.

The result? RPH Plant Limited is now back to 100% compliance. Their processes have been significantly strengthened, and they can move forward with confidence knowing they are fully prepared should the DVSA ever come knocking.

What did they think?

Simon Robottom, Yard Supervisor at RPH Plant Limited, shared the following:

“We recently engaged Darren to carry out a compliance audit for our business and the experience was outstanding. His skill, experience and knowledge were truly fantastic. Throughout the audit, no stone was left unturned. Darren demonstrated an exceptional understanding of every aspect of operator licence compliance.

His thorough approach gave us complete confidence that our operations meet the required standards. I would highly recommend Darren’s services to any business requiring support with operator licensing compliance. If you want a professional, knowledgeable and comprehensive audit, Darren is the way forward.”

Could your operation benefit from a DVSA audit?

Many operators only review their compliance when prompted by enforcement action. The smarter move is to review it before that happens.
